I thought about drawing a journal comic but it’s so much easier to type things right now
Diana and I left for Minneapolis 4 days ago. The movers I hired were pretty darn quick, so after taking care of some final errands - checking my PO Box for the last time & having one last lunch with (Dungeon Panic’s) John at Spider House - we set out in the early afternoon. On day 1 of the drive I had planned to stop in Edmond for the night, as it was a town I had lived in when I was 9. A rather insane thunderstorm forced us to stop in OKC proper though. We contacted a few hotels while sitting in a Bed Bath & Beyond parking lot, watching the hail bounce off the windshield… and eventually we found a rather nice Best Western that was OK with the cats. On the way to OKC we stopped at a Grandy’s, one of those southwestern fast food chains that’s still fairly ubiquitous, but the locations in Houston and Austin all closed down while I lived there. We also listened to several episodes of How Did it Get Made.
For day 2, Minneapolis was still twelve hours away, but I felt like I could totally do it. Five states in one day. It’s interesting how the scenery seemed to abruptly change from state to state. Again, for lunch we had to go to a place with a drive-thru so we could sit with the cats, but we found that Kansas was the home of its own fast food chain called Spangles, so we gave it a try. It was pretty good; apparently they thought they were slow with our order, so we got a coupon for a free ice cream which we can use… next time we’re in Kansas, I guess. Until we reached Minneapolis, the only really interesting city on 35 was Kansas City. Des Moines may have been nice too, but 35 went completely around it, so there was no way to know. Des Moines was where we’d stop if I was feeling too tired, but at that point I was like RAARRRGH FUCK LETS DO IT. I admit that by the time we crossed the Minnesota border I was coming unraveled, and it felt sort of like an alien was about to come out of my chest. But I held it together. Somehow. We arrived a little after 11pm.
Apparently I have two of the easiest cats in the world, as they had very little trouble sitting in their Sherpa bags for hours on end, and seemed very amused by the hotel. Max is still in a rather confused state which is causing him to jump on our heads and meow 2-3 times each night, but gradually he seems to be getting the hang of things. We’re now unpacking, painting some walls, and waiting for my stuff to arrive, which should happen on Wednesday. This stuff does include my Cintiq, so naturally there won’t be anything like a You Suck comic until later in the week, but I am rather eager to work again. And update this Tumblr again.
Minneapolis is pretty great so far!
Just letting everyone know I’m really stepping up my moving work at the moment. I still wanna draw at least one You Suck but eueeeeeh
also I will always quote Doom House while in the process of moving, always and forever
JOSH IS MOVING. JOSH NEEDS MONEY.
Yup, was kinda hoping I could back into a more productive streak before doing this, but I can’t put this off any longer. It’s sales drive time. Yeah it’s pretty much all but confirmed now that I’m moving up to Minneapolis. in about a month and a half, and moving costs money. Root Canals (which I also need) also cost money. And yeah, when you drop something on your tablet screen, as I did last night, the repairs to the resulting cracks will cost money too. I still can’t believe I fucking did that.
SOME LINKS
BIGCARTEL: The Girly Collection and Figurine!
I moved my store over to BigCartel for the convenience of convenience, and this is where you can get the remaining Girly things. If you were ever thinking of buying them, now’s the absolute best time to do it. There’s 152 book collections left and 5 figurines. For every 5 collections I sell, that’s one less box I have to take with me. It would help quite a bit! There’s also a box of Cutewendy books and a few Snail shirts (size XL).
My other store, which sells the digital books, is at Gumroad. The sales at this particular store haven’t gone well, but I plan to have collections of all my stuff available there eventually anyway. For now you can get the Girly books for much cheaper here, and you can pick and choose the volumes you want. If you’re wondering how they are different from just browsing the website, well… They’re MUCH higher-res. They also come with all the extras the printed books have. The above shots are all from the iPad 3, using the free iBooks software. Then there’s a couple shots on the Galaxy for good measure. Seriously. Buy these damn things. >:|
If you want to just donate… Well, I’m not taking those. So just give the digital books a shot. They’re priced at $5+ meaning you can pay $5 or more for them. So drop some money there and pick up a PDF or two while you’re at it. Come onnnnn.
If you’re wondering where the You Suck merchandise is, well… you’ll have to wait a while for that; the comic is still pretty new!
SALES GOAL: $2000
Remember back in 2009 or thereabouts, when I drew 35 comic strips in a single day? Well, if I meet this goal by May 10 I will set aside a day and do the same thing again. And if I’m feelin’ really good, I may make it 50.
Okay! Let’s go!
last one. it’s-a meeee
i’m not using it for my icon, though!
i luv the ramen guy
edit: lookin at it now, I’m not sure why I made the beard darker… it’s like 1/4th grey now…
those who don’t have me on twitter… the past week I have been suffering from intermittent coughing that I originally thought was due to reflux… but now that medium-grade fevers (which completely knock me out) are accompanying the coughs, it seems to be some nondescript virus/infection instead.
Seriously, it’s (as yet) a minor thing but I guess I need Dr House to tell me what it is because it’s not the flu or a cold or pneumonia or whooping cough and basically what the hell else is there… I’m seeing a doctor again tomorrow but this seems to be one of those things where I just have to let it run its course, or die.
So yeah, more delays to You Suck and whatnot. Like I wasn’t slow enough getting things done already. Fuck.
